Michael Bell Memorial Award Presented to Dr John Edwards KSG
Following the 6:30pm Mass on Saturday 7 March 2026 at St Barnabas Cathedral, the Michael Bell Memorial Award of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights (IACK) was presented to Dr John Edwards KSG in recognition of his outstanding service in promoting and defending the dignity of human life.
The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Patrick McKinney, with Fr Simon Gillespie and Rev Canon Malachy Brett concelebrating. The Alliance expresses its sincere gratitude to them for their welcome and for marking this important occasion within the celebration of the Eucharist.
The award was presented by Brother Frank Stanley, Secretary General of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights, on behalf of the International President Charles Cobb, who was unable to be present.

The Michael Bell Memorial Award recognises individuals who have given exceptional service in promoting and defending the dignity of human life and supporting pro-life initiatives in their communities and countries.
About Dr John Edwards
Dr John Edwards, a former teacher at The Becket Catholic School in Nottingham, has been a dedicated pro-life advocate for more than 30 years. He currently serves as Pro-Life Coordinator for the Diocese of Nottingham and is a director of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, the UK’s largest pro-life campaigning and educational organisation.
Dr Edwards has organised a number of significant initiatives promoting a culture of life, including:
- The annual 40 Days for Life prayer vigil in Nottingham
- The Nottingham Pro-Life Chain of Witness across Trent Bridge
- Participation in national March for Life events
- The establishment of a pregnancy support centre providing practical assistance to women facing unexpected pregnancies
Throughout his work, Dr Edwards has consistently offered support, guidance, and advocacy for families facing difficult circumstances, promoting respect for human life from conception to natural death.
